PhD Candidate Diane Matar is highlighted as one of the Young Professionals inspiring a new generation in the landmark IUCN World Parks Congress.

Taking place in Sydney on November 12-19, the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014 is a milestone global forum on protected areas. Under the theme "Parks, people, planet: inspiring solutions", this once-in-a-decade event will group 4000+ people who will share inspiring stories, discuss approaches to conservation and sustainable development, and set the agenda for the next 10 years.

Three years into her PhD research on UNESCO Biosphere Reserves management effectiveness in the MENA region, Diane Matar will be presenting the first findings on North Africa in a poster presentation prepared with CEU supervisor B. Anthony and in partnership with IUCN-Mediterranean. Her profile and role at the congress has been featured by CoalitionWild on their website entitled “WHO IS INSIPRING A NEW GENERATION” (click on Lebanon on the global map). Diane has also authored a case-study about management effectiveness of biosphere reserves in Lebanon published in the first E-Book co-authored by international experts on Protected Areas Governance and Management, to be launched in the Congress in Sydney.

We are pleased to have Diane Matar represent our Department and CEU at this unique event!
